Using South Sea Pearls in Jewellery & Care Tips | Mohs Scale 2.5–4.5: Best suited for necklaces, pendants and earrings, far too soft for everyday rings. South Sea Pearls are prized for their large size and satin-like lustre, they don’t need much else in a design to look impressive. Always wipe them gently with a soft damp cloth after wearing, avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners completely, and keep them away from perfumes, hairspray and strong chemicals which can damage their surface.
👀 Did you know? South Sea Pearls are grown in the Pinctada maxima oyster, the largest pearl-producing oyster species, each pearl can take 2 to 4 years to form.
