Using Lapis Lazuli in Jewellery & Care Tips | Mohs Scale 5–5.5: Best suited for pendants, earrings and beads, rings should use protective settings due to softness. Lapis really comes alive in gold, the deep blue with golden pyrite flecks has a richness that silver can’t match. Clean gently with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners as Lapis is porous.
👀 Did you know? The pigment ultramarine, made from ground lapis lazuli, was once more expensive than gold and reserved for painting the robes of the Virgin Mary in Renaissance art. It is also evidenced to be one of the first gemstones ever mined, used by humans even in 4500 BC.
